The impact of AI on my tutoring job depends on several factors, including the nature of the tutoring services I provide, the subject matter, and how AI is integrated into educational practices. Here are some considerations:

Areas Where AI Might Impact My Tutoring:

  1. Routine Tasks: AI can handle repetitive and standardised tasks, such as grading, providing practice exercises, and answering common questions.

  2. Personalised Learning: AI-driven platforms can offer personalised learning experiences by adapting to individual students' needs based on their performance data.

  3. Accessibility and Convenience: AI tutors are available 24/7, providing help at any time and potentially reaching students who might not have access to human tutors.

Areas Where I Have an Edge as a Human Tutor:

  1. Complex Problem-Solving: I can offer nuanced explanations and engage in complex problem-solving, which might be beyond the current capabilities of AI.

  2. Emotional Intelligence: I can provide empathy, encouragement, and motivation, which are critical for student engagement and confidence.

  3. Customisation and Adaptability: While AI can personalise learning, I can tailor my teaching methods in real-time based on a student’s immediate reactions and questions.

  4. Building Relationships: The rapport between a tutor and student is often essential for effective learning, something AI cannot fully replicate.

Enhancing My Tutoring with AI:

Instead of viewing AI as a threat, I can consider how it can complement my work:

  • Use AI Tools: I can integrate AI tools to handle administrative tasks, track student progress, and provide additional practice resources.

  • Focus on High-Value Activities: I can concentrate on areas where my expertise and interpersonal skills make the most impact.

  • Stay Updated: I should keep up with advancements in AI and education technology to enhance my tutoring methods.

Long-Term Outlook:

AI will likely change the landscape of education and tutoring, but it won't eliminate the need for human tutors. The key for me is to adapt and find ways to leverage AI to enhance my services, providing value that AI alone cannot offer. By doing so, I can remain relevant and even improve my effectiveness as a tutor.
