Does this sound familiar? If it doesn't, then you clearly weren't listening last time you went on a family trip of more than an hour ;-). I think it'an apt question at the moment. Are we nearly there yet? Unfortunately the answer is...probably not. Tiny steps...tiny steps... is what we're hearing and I think it fits. We can only do what every organised person does....PLAN.

I'm one of the lucky ones who has been able to work through this pandemic so I've been planning on a daily basis and it has kept me focused and probably sane. The weeks have flown for me and I've been so focused on the here and now (which is often a good thing) that I haven't really given the future much thought. Until this week. It has started to become clear that things won't be as they were for a considerable amount of time and I won't be able to get in my car to go and tutor in people's home for a very long time. So I didn't have any choice but to start a Plan B as the saying goes. I have been teaching a student in South East Asia online since September but I had never considered it for my UK work until Covid-19. I am coming to terms with the fact that online tuition will be the new 'normal' so this IS my Plan B. Some of my previous clients are happy to move to online tuition and although I'll miss those lovely cups of tea (you know who you are!), the human rapport is still there even if it is only virtually.

My teaching prior to lock down was primarily supporting SEND pupils with their transition from mainstream school to a more suitable setting for them. At the moment I have no idea if I will be able to do this going forward, well at least within the next twelve months or so. It is virtually impossible to social distance when providing one-to-one teaching and it would make those board games we love playing playing quite challenging. However, if I am lucky enough to be able to return to these assignment, I might well invest in an electric bike (not because I'm lazy, but simply because I want to be fairly presentable when I arrive at the teaching location).

To return to the original question. Are we nearly there yet? Well, not quite but the road ahead is clearer and we will adjust our route if necessary. #staysafe #onlinetuition #planb
